They are wrapped in a thick, glabrous, firm leathery skin. Inside, in a soft cotton-like lining, there are numerous seeds surrounded by jelly-like orange-greenish flesh.
The taste is slightly similar to blackcurrant, very distinctive, pleasantly rolled up to very sour, with an exotic aroma reminiscent of apricots or mangoes. The firm leathery skin is smooth and shiny before ripening, wrinkled and bumpy at maturity, as if wrinkled.
You will appreciate passion fruit as a fresh table fruit that can be eaten with a spoon after cutting. In the kitchen, it is most often used to flavor drinks or cups. The exotic taste of this fruit will also stand out in fruit salads, desserts, cocktails, marmalades or ice creams. It can be used to make juice, but also topping cakes, or desserts are decorated directly with seeds or flavored with pulp (especially cheesecakes). It is often added to tropical juices. By boiling the strained pulp (without seeds) with sugar, a thick delicious syrup is created.
It contains large amounts of provitamin A, vitamins B, C, calcium, phosphorus, iron and fiber. Originally from Brazil, it is now grown in most tropical regions, most often in Kenya, Australia and New Guinea.
