Oval to round fruits with a diameter of 3 cm. They are covered with ochre or pinkish red coarse, hard and thin skin, which can be easily peeled. The whitish to slightly yellowish pulp similar to grapes is extremely juicy and sweet, with a delicate aroma. In the middle of the fruit is a shiny, brown inedible seed about 2 cm long. The fruit spoils relatively quickly, so it is often supplied with twigs, on which they last longer. In the refrigerator, the fruit turns brown, but the taste and freshness are preserved.
Just peel the fruit, halve it in half and remove the stone from it. Lychee is excellent in salads or cocktails. It can also be added to meat prepared sweetly, in sweet & sour and curry mixtures. It is used in many sweet dishes and desserts.
It contains vitamin C, potassium, sodium, calcium, riboflavins and niacin. Lychee was a favorite fruit of the Chinese emperors. It is still grown mainly in China, India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, but it has gained popularity in many other tropical regions, in Israel, southern Africa, Madagascar, Mexico and some parts of Australia.
