You can recognize them by their light yellow to beige color, and by the fact that they are usually wrapped in a soft mesh, as they are prone to wrinkles and bruises. The shape of the fruit is more like an apple, it is spherical rounded. This type of pear does not have the typical pear shape as we know it in our varieties.
The golden skin is very fragile, there is white flesh inside. Nashi pears are very juicy and crispy.
Nashi pears are very sweet and juicy. You will enjoy their typical taste the most when you eat them fresh. However, they are also suitable for marinades, roasted meat or game, or desserts or fruit salads.
They give an interesting taste to preserves or jams.
This variety comes from Japan. Today it is grown throughout East Asia. It is especially rich in vitamin C, folic acid or fiber. It is also packed with antioxidants that have a positive effect on eyesight, such as lutein and zeaxanthin.
