Sopropo, also called bitter melon, is a vegetable native to Southeast Asia, where it has been cultivated since ancient times for its medicinal effects. It is similar in appearance to a wrinkled cucumber, it also has a similar taste, but it is very bitter. It has proven antibacterial and antiviral effects, so it is suitable for the treatment of colds and flu. Thanks to its ability to balance blood glucose levels, sopropo is suitable for diabetics. Sopropo has also been shown to have anti-cancer and anti-HIV effects.
It is eaten stewed with meat or as a side dish for meat in spicy sauces.
