The fruits are apple-shaped, rounded, oval, or slightly pear-shaped, pale yellow, white to greenish, often pink or red (e.g. in Malaysia). They grow to a size of about 4–5 cm. The skin is thin and waxy, shiny. The sweet flesh is fragile, slightly floury, drier to slightly juicy, light yellow in color, with an aroma reminiscent of a rose. In the center of the hollow fruit there are usually 1–4 medium-hard, brown, rounded seeds that rattle inside the fruit when we shake it.
The fruits are highly sensitive to bruises and spoil very easily and quickly. Healthy fruits are shiny, firm, without stains or damage.
Mostly fresh seedless fruits are eaten, which are slightly poisonous. The sliced fruit can be added to fruit and vegetable salads, sweet cakes and fruit desserts.
The fruits contain phosphorus, calcium, carotene and vitamin C. Native to eastern India and Malaysia, it is grown in the area of the former Indochina, in the Pacific and on both American continents and in Australia, but everywhere only in tropical areas. Rose apple is the fruit of a relatively resistant tree that reproduces easily in favorable conditions and can also be a threat to local ecosystems.
